Apropos of which, there's more remarkable technology in the metaphorical pipeline. I know I'm repeating myself (and you have even quoted me on this subject, Mike), but here's what the computational wizards of photography will soon deliver.

Mike, this is unrelated to your post, but I'm puzzled about the lack of discussion of the Trump tariffs on the general photography websites. Surely the camera and lens makers are gaming out the possibilities and what the tariffs could cost them, as well as how much they will have to raise prices to the consumer. People can buy American cars if they wish, but they can hardly buy American cameras and lenses (other than Lensbabys). Where is the informed discussion of this issue?

>>I'll tell you, after working with the monochrome sensor, everything from a Bayer-array color sensor looks blurry.<<
This. So much this. Since I got the Pentax K-3 III Monochrome I cannot bear to look at digital color, to the point that these days I carry a Pentax 17 loaded with Ektachrome 100 for my occasional colour shots, rather than any of my very expensive colour digicams.

The joy of using an old fully functioning piece of photographic equipment, AND, making an image that you can share and are proud of, is one of lifes genuine luxuries.

A scanned film negative is still worth the effort. Even in 2025. A true account. So few things are just true. Not relatively true. Or true from a certain perspective. But just... true. A simple photo from something like an elder Pentax with a 2.8 50mm on it. Man.

It just makes you appreciate how good photographers had it in the way back when. Costs were big. But so were the results.

This is still a worthwhile hobby Mike. And your writing is still just as important and readable as ever it was.

Kind Regards to you on this careworn day of Liberty. If you tuned out of the news, you'd hardly notice how much dread we should be feeling. Because people are still being kind to each other all over the world.

Something worth remembering.

"looks blurry."

And I was just thinking how incredibly detailed that tiny detail is!

There is even an Asahi-Tessar for that camera on the window sill. Okay, it’s a full stop slower than the Contax-Tessar, but otherwise a fine lens indeed. A sound performer at all distances, not just close-up as the name suggests.

Thom Hogan published a very good article on his website about Trump tariffs.
In many ways I wouldn't change my canadian nationality for yours ( if you are american)
