TOP reader Adam Isler dropped by remote TOP Rural Headquarters last week with his family (they were on a college trip for his daughter, who is interested in Cornell in neighboring Ithaca). Note the Zipcar—Adam is a systems engineer in Manhattan, one of the few places in America where automobile ownership seems to be a liability. We had a nice lunch and a nicer conversation down in Hammondsport, at my favorite restaurant there, which is about to close down for the Winter.

Nice to meet the Islers!

Jon Peterson: "Thanks for posting these occasional visitor's logs. It's fun to get a pseudo-random sampling from your legions of fans. As a Cornellian, a systems engineer, and a non car driver, I think I would have enjoyed chatting with the Isler clan."
On the subject of the Finger Lakes area, have you seen the latest edition of Food and Wine Magazine? There is a nice section about the wine industry (world class rieslings in your area) and the quickly growing restaurant scene. You probably know the people in the article but it was interesting to me.

Mike, your picture of the Islers makes me even more regretful that I was not able to contact you last summer via my balky email server when I was in the vicinity—all I had to do was pick up the phone book or dial 411, an old-timey skill I had forgotten all about!

What a fantastic photo!
That's all I have or need to say.
