...And speaking of digicams, a.k.a. digital point-and-shoots: Amazon's Gold Box deal of the day today is the Canon SD4000IS digicam
, for $90.99 off list price (and about $55 off the street price), plus they're throwing in a $7 4-GB SD card for free. The camera actually is a nice one as digicams go—it sports Canon's best-quality CMOS p/s sensor, and its 28–105mm-e lens is a speedy ƒ/2 at the wide end.
Available in black, red, or silver. B&H Photo sells a leather case for the camera, too, for $14.95. (Note that the case has no belt loop.)
Unfortunately the deal is only good for shipment to the USA, and although the "Gold Box" deals are supposedly good for 24 hours, this sale is "while supplies last" and these most likely won't last all day—Amazon has 83 of them as I write this. So move reasonably quickly if you decide you need a deal on a high-quality stocking-stuffer.

Amazing deal on an excellent camera. Thanks!

I certainly appreciate the tip, but I decided a while ago that there was no particularly good reason to spend more than $120 on a P&S digicam. The ONLY reason I can think of is "higher resolution screen", but even that strikes me as a weak argument. Greater zoom range? How often do you need to take a picture at 750mm-e? How many pictures taken at 750mm-e are any good? More megapixels? Nope. Better image quality? Doubtful. If you shop carefully, you can get a pretty competent camera for $120.
Best,
Adam

Should be a great deal! I bought my wife the SD800 a few years ago, earlier version with 28-105 equiv IS lens, it still works perfectly and takes great snapshots.

@Adam: I only want to process raw--hate having only JPEGs from the camera. But I do agree that the cheapest P&S that shoots raw is the first one to consider.

Marc,
For what it's worth, many Canon P&S digicams (even fairly cheap ones) can shoot raw if you install the alternate CHDK firmware. For more information, see here: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_for_Dummies

Adam,
The incentive for buying the SD4000 is not the easily accomplished P&S zoom as you can find in ones like the SX210.
It's the f/2.0 aperture and the backlit CMOS sensor, which naturally still doesn't come close to any DSLR, but in compact terms, is nothing less then a new era of manufacturers cross-eyeing towards image quality instead of pure megapixel count.
