This auction might well be the most expensively-priced Phillips we've ever encountered, but the nice pictures provide a visual tour of Dick Phillips' innovative lightweight 8x10 for those who might never have seen one. The influence of R. H. Phillips & Sons cameras can be seen in many later modern view cameras.

What is so important about this camera?
I think this is a horizontal only camera (at least that is in my mind and hence I ignore them, when I look for my 8x10 camera a couple of years ago).
But I agree the e-bay picture look quite nice.

That's just a protector plate velcroed to the back, right? (For a second I thought it might be the ground glass, and then immediately thought about precision of positioning and such. But it doesn't look like ground glass, either.)
I wonder why it has a hole in the middle?
