Featured Comments from:
Antony Shepherd: "Good Dogs! Thanks for that Mike, really got my day off to a good start. And thanks to the contributors and their lovely dogs!"
Vinck: "Seeing this purely as a suite of pictures, before you add any notes, I'm struck by how wonderfully the five first entries work together. They are all strong and beautiful on their own, but as a set they compliment each other so well I wouldn't take or add anything, nor would i want to see them in a different order. Essentially perfect, and quite unusual for this type of potpourri exercise. All my thanks to the authors and the curator."
Sean (partial comment): "I’ve never owned a dog in my adult life; I’m actually a little scared of larger dogs. But this is now my favourite Baker's Dozen."
Dogman: "Two paws up...or whatever. Great photos! But there are no really bad photos if they are photos with dogs."
Mike replies: Given your handle, I had to feature your comment. :-)
Nice gallery! Thank you for selecting me.

They're all amazing!

The photo by John Camp is wonderful. Unusual angle, and it captures the equally determined expressions of human and dog. Good work.

It's probably not fair to single out a favourite among so many great photos, but here we go : Kyle Batson's two dogs with a red flag.

I’ve never owned a dog in my adult life; I’m actually a little scared of larger dogs, but this is now my favourite Baker's Dozen. Jez’s has me thinking of Crazy English Summer by Faithless

Great photos, well selected. As an aside, last night I saw the new Superman movie, and I highly recommend it to all dog lovers.

One or two of these don't look like photographs.

Having bred and raised curly-coated retrievers for a couple years--I had some photos in mind but never submitted. These are all outstanding, and this collection has made my day. Thanks to everyone who did submit!!!

I love all of these, but the first is just perfect. A truly wonderful collection!

Wow, thanks Mike! A privilege to be included in this wonderful doggie group! Congratulations to everyone. As a long time admirer of Elliott Erwitt’s dog pictures, it’s a real pleasure to view these. Hard to pick favourites, but I kept going back to the colour portraits by Jez Cunningham and Charlie Dunton.

This is gonna sound odd, but the first photo by Jez does not look real to me. Like it is AI or something, I have no expertise in AI photos, but it just seems manufactured in some way rather than a photo with some processing. Almost like a painting maybe…weird vibe with it.

Sorry to John Cecilian but this is our Cairn Terrier Maisie, sitting on a steam train. Taken on iPhone 12, cropped and (looking at History in Lightroom) a small amount of playing with Clarity / Sharpness / Dehaze / Texture.

Like John Cecilian I initially thought there was something unnatural about photo #1. However I did some quick research and it looks to me like a genuine photo taken on the Dartmouth Steam Railway (In the UK). Maybe it's just the PP. I also give a thumbs up to the dog having a blanket to sit on - I see too many people lettig their dogs sit on unprotected seats, and worse sometimes feeding them scraps from a restaurant or pub table. (I'm in no way anti-dog, although I prefer them running around chasing balls and sticks in the park)

Hey Mike and fellow dog observers,
Love the pics and thanks to all the photogs sharing their pics and Mike's curation of what must have been a real challenge.
My two favorite inspirational Elliott Erwitt "dog" pics are ...
https://www.elliotterwitt.com/snaps?pgid=kcw7gc7a-827ac5f8-f1d6-44d6-9082-8bd914b5b5bf
and
https://lfi-online.de/en/stories/elliott-erwitt-on-the-cover-photo-14569.html
I see that we now have the "is it AI?" controversy and frankly I do wonder about some of the pics but they still tell an observational story about dogs so I'm fine with that. I look forward to the details to follow.
I also learned that the old analog newspaper phrase of "below the fold" has a modern digital equivalent in the display of my pic as "one more for good measure". Technology and triskaidekaphobia superstitions keep on keepin' on - lol.
Anyway, love all the dogs and their emotional and photographic baggage.
Woof-woof y'all,
Ed
