UPDATE Thursday: I'm back home now. I had to go to a hotel last night for the second night of our local power outage, which was extensive and affected our whole area. According to a local authority (my neighbor), we had winds gusting to 70 mph. To put that in context, 74 mph for episodes of one minute or more 10m above the surface is the definition of a hurricane.
There wasn't a third night without power, so that was good. The power is back on now and the house is almost recombobulated again (that's not a word, but it should be). And I'm back up and running on my computer. I didn't lose any trees, just one large branch. It's nice to be home. Butters and I are both pretty thoroughly exhausted by all the extracurricular activity.
See you in the morning!
I kid. We had a ferocious windstorm here last night—it blew the metal furniture off the patio, which is impressive—and the whole area is without power for the foreseeable. I don’t like the looks of this.
The last time this happened, I swore I’d be ready for the next time. Yet I’m not. And to think, the Johnston clan motto is “Nunquam non paratus,” never unprepared. I might have to modify that. I wonder how you say “Sometimes unprepared” in Latin?
The topic I was going to try next is, are color photographers really color photographers? I have a long list of photographers who really use color in their work. They’re sensitive to color. Their pictures wouldn’t work without color. I just never thought it was enough to photograph in color without paying the least amount of attention to the color in the picture. Could be this is just me. You might be thinking about that, anyway, for when I get back. I sure enjoyed Monday’s conversation.
I should be all right for a day or two of this. The gas stove still works, and I’ve got canned soup, bread, peanut butter, and jelly. I’ll be back as soon as the power comes back on.
