It is possible to take beautiful cat pictures:
Georgie and Glen Coco by Kim Kirkpatrick
Very likely this is the spiritual endpoint of TOP...that or a sign of the apocalypse...
...I'm posting cat pictures. Gak!*
But really, this one's wonderful.
Mike
(Thanks to KK)
*Very longtime readers will know that I used to make a running gag of an exaggerated prejudice against cat pictures and flower pictures. Not so much in recent years, because, hey, there's nothing wrong with cat pictures and flower pictures.

Is "gak" an homage to Bill the Cat? Perhaps not, as I see that Bill used to say "ack." https://www.google.com/search?q=Bill+the+Cat&client=opera&hs=4qb&channel=suggest&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=XhBxU83-KJfpoAS5pYII&ved=0CDYQsAQ&biw=1330&bih=875&dpr=1
Still, one of the great cats of all time, and no allergy concerns.

Kirk Tuck shares your (previous?) take on cats and flowers here:
http://ripecamera.blogspot.com/2014/03/all-cameras-are-better-than-you-are.html
The relevant phrase: ``We've bought the ultimate cameras only to point them at our cats and that pot of flowers while holding the cameras in our shaky hands and setting them to automatic...''
All I can say is mea maxima culpa.

So very, true, because you actually posted a portrait of my cat, Lucky, a few years back.
IMHO, there's no such thing too many cat pictures.
Especially big cat pictures...

I think you need Bill the Cat to go along with the "gak"

Thank god I am not one of those idiots who shoots endless pictures of their pet cats.
I have pet turtles.

I am a cretin, I suppose, but what makes that photo excellent?

I'm with Bill. For starters, there's two cats in it.

I second Bill's comment and question.

I'll take a shot at why the photo is interesting and visually appealing for some...
There backlight provides a nice outline to the cat in front, and a silhouette of the cat at the window. Both cats have just enough shadow detail to make out some facial features, like the eyes of the cat in the window. The colors in the two corners kind of balance eachother, and in fact the photo as a whole has a sense of balance in terms of shapes and lines. There are nice, wavy leading lines on the bed spread. And of course the cat on the bed looks unusual.
Now, to continue this "cat thread" that you started, here are a few of my own favorites...
